Rescue Mission for Crew Member at Sea Near Rawson
On August 26, 2025, a 19-year-old crew member aboard the fishing vessel 'Aresit' had to be urgently medevaced by the Argentine Naval Prefecture while the vessel was more than 290 kilometers off the coast of Rawson. The distress call was issued by the ship's captain, who reported that the crew member was experiencing severe abdominal pain along with symptoms including extreme epigastric pain, dizziness, and vomiting. Recognizing the critical situation, the Prefecture's medical team determined that immediate hospital treatment was necessary. A helicopter, equipped with specialized medical personnel, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, a medical basket was deployed to safely hoist the ill crew member aboard the helicopter. The medevac operation was successfully executed, and the patient was swiftly transported to Trelew airport, where an ambulance was on standby to rush him to a local hospital for further care. All Crew Members of Aresit Test Positive for COVID-19 in Puerto Deseado
On August 20, 2020, the fishing vessel 'Aresit' docked in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz, where all 29 crew members were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. This alarming situation arose after two initial cases of the virus were identified onboard. In response, a local laboratory conducted thorough testing on the entire crew, revealing that every crew member tested positive for the virus. While some individuals exhibited severe symptoms, others displayed only mild manifestations with low viral loads. At the time of their first diagnosis, the 'Aresit' was actively engaged in shrimp fishing. After arriving in Puerto Deseado, all crew members remained aboard the vessel without disembarking in order to contain the spread of the virus. Currently, the majority of the crew are asymptomatic and are isolated in a designated area of the port until they are cleared of the virus. The Argentine Naval Prefecture is overseeing the health and safety protocols concerning the 'Aresit.'
