Emergency Medivac Operation Near Saint-Brieuc for Injured Crew Member

Oct 07, 2023 18:53

On October 6, 2023, a crew member of the offshore vessel 'Ariadne' required urgent medical attention, resulting in a swift air evacuation by the civil security helicopter Dragon 29. The incident occurred while the ship was stationed in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, specifically within an offshore wind farm. The injured sailor, a 49-year-old man, sustained injuries earlier in the day, prompting a rapid response from the CROSS Corsen, which coordinated the medevac. In the early afternoon hours, the Dragon 29 helicopter successfully hoisted the sailor and transported him to Brest University Hospital for further medical treatment.

Incident Aboard the Viking Poseidon: February 2011 Cable Break in Gulf of Mexico

Feb 24, 2011 09:29

On February 21, 2011, a serious incident occurred involving the 'Viking Poseidon' approximately ten miles off the coast of Galveston in the Gulf of Mexico. At around 4 p.m., a cable snapped during an exercise, resulting in a small boat being launched unexpectedly. The mishap involved three Norwegian crew members who were aboard the craft at the time. Due to dense fog in the vicinity, evacuation by air to a hospital in Galveston was not feasible until February 22. In the meantime, the 'Viking Poseidon' continued its journey while first aid personnel onboard tended to the injured crew members. Their relatives in Norway were promptly informed and had the opportunity to speak with them via telephone. As reported, two of the three crew members remained stationary under medical supervision. The circumstances surrounding the depth from which the boat fell remain unclear; however, it was noted that the boat appeared to have been positioned at a considerable height before making contact with the water. In response, Eidesvik Offshore ASA has initiated an internal inquiry to determine the root causes of the incident and has engaged marine consultants for further investigation. Additionally, all of Eidesvik’s vessels, along with other shipping fleets with similar configurations, have been advised to conduct thorough inspections of their small boat cables.
