Captain Found Intoxicated During Kiel Canal Transit in Brunsbüttel
On January 8, 2014, at approximately 8:55 PM, the cargo vessel 'Tyumen 2', sailing from Hamburg to Szczecin, made its way into the southern lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel when authorities noticed the captain's erratic conduct and detected the scent of alcohol. A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed that the 45-year-old captain had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 per mille. Following this, a blood sample was taken, and the ship was held at the railway pilings in Brunsbüttel while the captain spent the night at the seafarer's Mission.
