Emergency Response to Galley Fire on Offshore Support Vessel in Lerwick
On March 12, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., emergency services including police, an ambulance, and three fire appliances were dispatched to the 'Armada 78-01,' an offshore support vessel docked at the Greenhead Base in Lerwick. The fire, which occurred in the ship's galley, was promptly contained and extinguished by the crew members, who are primarily of Ukrainian, Croatian, and Filipino descent. Although the fire was extinguished, smoke lingered in the galley area. Two crew members received on-site treatment for suspected mild smoke inhalation but were subsequently released. The 'Armada 78-01' was preparing for operations in the Brent oilfield, located northeast of Shetland.
