SAAM Welcomes New RAstar 3200 Tug ARRIERO to Montevideo Port
SAAM, the Chile-based maritime company, has expanded its fleet with the delivery of the ARRIERO, a powerful terminal support tug. This robust vessel is part of the RAstar 3200 series from the distinguished Canadian firm, Robert Allan Ltd. Measuring 32 meters in length and capable of an impressive 85 tonnes bollard pull, ARRIERO was handed over in September 2023. The tug was meticulously constructed by Bonny Fair Heavy Industry in Guangdong, China, and represents the first of four sister vessels planned for SAAM's operations. Designed in compliance with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards, ARRIERO demonstrated a remarkable free-running speed of 13.8 knots during its sea trials. Powering this efficient tug are two GE 8L250 diesel engines, each delivering 2,440kW at 1,050 rpm, ensuring dependable performance at the bustling port of Montevideo, Uruguay.
