Transocean Maritime Agencies has successfully closed a deal for their Panamax bulk carrier, the 'Ascanius' (IMO: 7725044), built in 2004 at Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan. The sale, finalized for an impressive USD 8.5 million, was completed with buyers from Greece, Newport. The vessel recently passed its special and dry docking inspections in February 2022, ensuring it meets all necessary maritime standards for its new owners.

On April 6, 2017, a dramatic medical evacuation unfolded off the coast of La Réunion when a helicopter from the gendarmerie rescued a 40-year-old Indonesian crew member from the cargo vessel 'Ascanius'. This ship was on its way from Singapore to Rio Grande when the seaman fell seriously ill, suffering from high fevers. The Gendarmerie’s air unit, known for its swift responses, was dispatched at 2 p.m. to carry out the mission. Coordination for this urgent operation was managed by the Centre Régional Opérationnel de Surveillance et de Sauvetage (CROSS), in collaboration with the SAMU and local gendarmerie forces. At the time of the rescue, the 'Ascanius' was located approximately 85 km off La Réunion but had navigated closer, reaching around 12 km from the bay of Saint-Paul. The patient was successfully hoisted by the helicopter and subsequently transported to the Félix Guyon Hospital in Saint-Denis for further medical attention.
