On July 30, 2015, at 4 p.m., a maritime incident occurred involving the ferry 'Champion Jet 1,' carrying 297 passengers, and the 'Athina P,' which was en route to Angistri and Aegina with 60 passengers onboard. The collision took place as both vessels were preparing to depart from the busy Piraeus port. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the total of 357 passengers and crew members aboard either ship, likely due to the low speed at which both ferries were operating at the time. Following the incident, the 'Champion Jet 1' was forced to withdraw from its scheduled service to Sifnos, Milos, Ios, and Santorini due to damage sustained to one of its fins. To accommodate affected travelers, passengers from the 'Champion Jet 1' were either rerouted on other speed ferries or offered refunds. Meanwhile, those aboard the 'Athina P' were successfully transported to Aegina using an alternate hydrofoil service.
