The hijacking ordeal of the 'Marine Express', a tanker that was compromised off the coast of Benin in West Africa, has come to a successful conclusion. As of 4:00 a.m. on February 6, the vessel is back under the command of its captain and crew, who have ensured that safety protocols are being upheld. Fortunately, all 13 crew members are reported safe and in good health, with their families already briefed on the situation. The ship, which is currently carrying 13,500 tonnes of gasoline, remains intact and under the crew's vigilant supervision. While the operator has not disclosed specific details regarding the hijacking incident, they have confirmed that a thorough investigation will be initiated to understand the events surrounding the attack.

As of February 5, the tanker 'Marine Express,' carrying 22 Indian crew members, remains unaccounted for off the coast of Benin in the Gulf of Guinea, with no communication established in the past three days. The last communication from the vessel occurred while it was anchored in Cotonou. The Indian Mission in Nigeria has been actively coordinating with the Nigerian Navy and other agencies to locate the missing ship, while the Directorate General of Shipping is also involved due to the presence of Indian sailors on board. In response, Nigerian authorities have issued alerts to all maritime vessels to be on the lookout for 'Marine Express' and report any sightings to shipping officials. The crew, hired by the Kolkata-based Anglo Eastern Shipping, are currently the focus of efforts to ensure their safety. To support the families of the Indian sailors, the owners, Ocean Transit Carrier SA, have established a dedicated helpline. The Indian Mission continues to liaise with relevant authorities as the situation develops and search efforts are closely monitored.
