Stranded Vessel Rescued and Towed to Algeciras Port

Dec 17, 2017 17:09

On December 17, 2017, the cargo ship "Manuela E" faced engine failure off the coast of Estrecho after departing from Gibraltar at approximately 4 a.m. The ship found itself adrift, about 2.5 miles from Punta Acebuche in Algeciras, prompting a request for assistance. The Spanish coastguard's Search and Rescue (SAR) vessel, "Salvamar Arcturus" (MMSI: 225986507), was dispatched from Tarifa to provide aid. Initially, "Salvamar Arcturus" succeeded in halting the shipโ€™s drift by taking it in tow. The operation was later enhanced by transferring the tow to the larger salvage tug, "Luz de Mar" (IMO: 9320104), which effectively brought the distressed vessel to the Algeciras port. The "Manuela E" was successfully berthed at 12:30 p.m. Following necessary repairs, the ship set sail again on December 21 at 5 p.m. en route to Cadiz, with an estimated arrival date of December 31.
