On the morning of April 10, 2014, tragedy struck aboard the cargo vessel 'Inge' while it was navigating the Kiel Canal, making its way from Gdansk to Aviles. A 63-year-old Ukrainian crew member suffered a fatal cardiac arrest shortly after the ship passed the ferry point at Burg. Emergency responders, including local fire rescue personnel, were dispatched to the scene at 8:30 a.m. despite their efforts, the crew member was pronounced dead. In the aftermath, the unfortunate individual was removed from the ship using a ladder.
