In a heartbreaking maritime incident on May 12, 2012, at approximately 4 a.m., the Argentine tanker m/v 'Rio Turbio' collided with the Paraguayan tug 'Ava Payagua' at river kilometer 102 of the Paraná River, near Zárate. The impact was devastating, resulting in the sinking of the 'Rio Turbio.' While the engineer of the tanker was found and transported to a nearby hospital suffering from hypothermia, seven crew members remain unaccounted for. Rescue operations are being urgently conducted by various agencies, including the Argentine Navy, Buenos Aires' Rescue Service, Fire and Environmental Protection crews, and the Coast Guard. The tugboat carried a total of 12 crew members, three of whom, including the captain and helmsman, have since been taken into custody as authorities investigate the circumstances of the incident.
