In a dramatic rescue operation on the night of May 20, 2014, the NSSR station Sørvær's lifeboat 'Gjert Wilhelmsen' embarked on an emergency mission after learning that the 'Kågtind' was experiencing engine failures and required urgent assistance. The distress call was received on May 19 at 10:40 p.m. Following nearly 12 hours of navigating rough waters, the lifeboat successfully towed the disabled trawler nearly 100 nautical miles to safety. By 10:30 a.m. the following day, the vessels arrived at the dock in Havøysund, where they were greeted with additional support from another lifeboat, 'Odin.' At the time of the rescue, the 'Kågtind' was fully loaded with fish and weighed approximately 700 tonnes. This collaborative effort highlights the vital role of the NSSR and local lifeboat services in ensuring maritime safety.
