Rohde Nielsen A/S Unveils Balder R, the Largest Split Hopper Suction Trailer in the World
Rohde Nielsen A/S proudly announces the delivery of the Balder R, their inaugural newbuilding, from the renowned Peene Werft shipyard located in Wolgast, Germany. This remarkable vessel, recognized as the largest Split Hopper Suction Trailer on the globe, boasts an impressive capacity of 6,000 cubic meters (cbm). The innovative design features a unique hull structure comprised of two hulls, measuring a total length of 111.3 meters and a beam of 19.4 meters, with a maximum loaded draft of 7 meters. Equipped with two dredging pipes with a diameter of 700 mm, the Balder R is engineered for deep dredging capabilities, plunging down to depths of 54 meters. The powerhouse of this vessel includes a total engine output of 10,504 kW, with the main propulsion provided by two engines, each generating 2,900 kW. The Balder R achieves a service speed of 14 knots, making it a formidable player in marine operations. Set to expand Rohde Nielsen's fleet, which now comprises 30 vessels, the Balder R is soon to be joined by a second unit, the Njord R, scheduled for delivery in late November 2011. Currently, the Balder R is engaged in preparations for a 'beach feeding' operation along the Danish west coast, specifically off Vrist in the North Sea.
