On November 11, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Venus Bay' fell victim to an armed pirate attack at 08:22 a.m. The incident took place approximately 23 nautical miles south of Bonny, in the troubled waters of the Gulf of Guinea, specifically at the coordinates 04 07N 007 00E. The pirates breached the vessel's wheelhouse and opened fire, inflicting damage to the windows. During the onslaught, they absconded with onboard property and robbed the crew of their cash and personal belongings, ultimately kidnapping ten crew members.
