Banglar Joyatra Returns to Sea as Ceasefire Holds in Middle East

Apr 08, 2026 12:20

In a positive development following the recent ceasefire in the Middle East, the bulk carrier 'Banglar Joyatra' is back on its course after being stranded in the Persian Gulf. The ship, which has 31 crew members aboard, set sail from Ras Al Khair port early on April 8, 2026. By midday, it was reported to be at the outer anchorage of Dammam port, cruising at a speed of 8.3 knots. The vessel, transporting nearly 37,000 tonnes of fertilizer from Ras Al Khair, is now en route towards the Strait of Hormuz. After its passage through Hormuz, 'Banglar Joyatra' aims to reach Cape Town port. As of now, the ship was 425 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz, with an estimated crossing time of around 40 hours. The vessel initially entered the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz on February 2 while carrying goods from India. Following a cargo loading of steel coils at a Qatari port, it made its way to Jebel Ali on February 27. The situation took a turn on February 28, when military actions by the USA and Israel in Iran escalated into broader regional conflict, leaving the bulk carrier stranded. After unloading its cargo at Jebel Ali on March 11, the vessel was due to pick up new shipments at a Kuwaiti port. However, due to escalating tensions and security threats, its departure was postponed. Now, with the ceasefire in place, 'Banglar Joyatra' has successfully resumed its passage through this critical maritime route, marking a hopeful turn in a tumultuous navigation history.
