DNV GL Celebrates Arrival of the B.A.P. Carrasco, a Cutting-Edge Research Vessel
The esteemed Freire Shipyard has successfully unveiled the B.A.P. Carrasco, a remarkable addition to the fleet that is classified by DNV GL. This ultra-modern polar oceanographic research vessel is equipped with an array of advanced technology designed for a range of scientific explorations. Notably, the B.A.P. Carrasco includes a dedicated meteorological office, six specialized laboratories, a helicopter landing pad, and a sophisticated bathymetry transducer system integrated into its hull’s flat bottom. Guillermo Freire, Director General of Freire Shipyard, remarked on the achievement: "This delivery showcases the exceptional capabilities of our dedicated team at Freire and highlights the outstanding collaboration we have experienced with all our project partners, particularly the Peruvian Navy and DNV GL." The Peruvian Navy will operate the B.A.P. Carrasco for a variety of tasks, including hydrographic, biological, geological, and physiochemical surveys, as well as providing humanitarian assistance. Walter Flores Servat, Head of the Department for Special Projects and Antarctic Matters at the Peruvian Navy, stated, "B.A.P. Carrasco embodies the pinnacle of research vessel standards." He expressed confidence in its operational versatility. Christian von Oldershausen, Segment Director Navy at DNV GL – Maritime, noted, "We are excited to classify such an impressive newbuilding. We look forward to nurturing our cooperative relationship with Freire and the Peruvian Navy in the future." The construction of the B.A.P.
