Jevenau Faces Oil Seal Leak Off Ireland but Continues Journey to Cork

Dec 29, 2018 13:54

On December 28, 2018, the vessel 'Jevenau' encountered an oil seal issue while navigating the waters off Berry Head, specifically at coordinates 050 08 52.6 N, 003 16 37.6 W. The ship, which was transporting 3,321 tonnes of fertilizer and was en route from Terneuzen to Cork with a crew of seven onboard, experienced a crack in the oil seal of its propeller shaft, leading to an oil leak into the engine bilges at approximately 08:20 a.m. Prompt action was taken by the crew, who managed to report the incident to the Solent Coastguard at 10:50 a.m. Following prompt repairs involving the replacement of pipes, the 'Jevenau' was able to resume its journey towards Cork. The vessel is expected to arrive in Cork by 3 p.m. on December 29. Safety measures and swift repairs ensured there were no major setbacks in the ship's operations.

Drifting Freighter 'Jevenau' Rescued in the English Channel

Jun 30, 2018 12:06

On June 29, 2018, at 5:40 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Jevenau' encountered a critical issue, leaving it disabled and adrift in the English Channel, a few miles northeast of Le Havre, France. By 7 a.m. the next morning, June 30, the ship continued to drift southward, remaining parallel to its intended route while on a journey from A Coruña, Spain, which it departed on June 26, to its destination at Wandelaar/Puurs, with an estimated time of arrival set for June 30 at 8 a.m. In response to the emergency, the Search and Rescue tug 'Abeile Languedoc' (IMO: 7710525) was dispatched from Boulogne-sur-Mer at 3 a.m. to provide assistance. Fortunately, by 7:30 a.m., the crew aboard the 'Jevenau' managed to rectify the problem, allowing the vessel to resume its original course at a speed of approximately 7.5 knots. As a safety measure, the tug continued to escort the freighter throughout the midday hours. The 'Jevenau' successfully navigated to the port of Antwerp, arriving at 3:45 p.m. on July 1, where it was moored in the Brussels-Scheldt-Maritime Canal, marking the end of an eventful journey.
