Renowned Belgian dredging company Jan De Nul is embarking on an essential project to bolster approximately 3 kilometers of the Prince Hendrik Sand Dike located on the picturesque Dutch Wadden Island of Texel. Utilizing the advanced trailing suction hopper dredger Bartolomeu Dias, the team is extracting an impressive five million cubic meters of sand from the North Sea. This vital resource is being transported to the beach via a floating pipeline, where bulldozers are meticulously distributing it to enhance the coastal landscape. The ceremony featured youth director Rodny Stolk, a proud resident of Texel, alongside Kees Stam, the director of 'Hoogheemraad', and Francis Verhees, the director of Jan De Nul. To symbolize this partnership and the commencement of the works, the directors of the collaborating entities filled a large hourglass with sand, signaling the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Bartolomeu Dias to begin reclaiming the initial quantities of sand needed for the project. This initiative is poised to bolster the resilience of the coastline and protect the region from the potential impacts of rising sea levels.

In a significant infrastructure project, Jan De Nul NV is set to bolster the Prins Hendrik dike, located on the picturesque island of Texel, Netherlands. Spanning over three kilometers, the dike will receive a crucial enhancement with the addition of sand on its seaward side, effectively extending the island's landmass by approximately 200 hectares. According to a press release by Jan De Nul, this initiative is not just about fortifying the dike; it also aims to create an innovative nature reserve featuring dunes, salt marshes, and beaches, which will be established starting in 2018. This dual-purpose project ensures the dike is prepared for future challenges while simultaneously enhancing the ecological landscape of the Wadden Sea. The Hollands Noorderkwartier district water control board awarded the contract for this vital reinforcement, part of a larger national initiative to strengthen over 1,100 kilometers of dikes and manage nearly 500 locks and pumping stations across the Netherlands by 2028. The operation will see the deployment of the trailing suction hopper dredger Bartolomeu Dias in the latter half of 2018 to facilitate the sand placement. Following this, Jan De Nul will embark on the creative process of designing the surrounding landscape, with completion of the project anticipated by mid-2019.
