Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Launches the World's Largest Woodchip Carrier: Batavia Express
Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has proudly completed the delivery of the Batavia Express, a monumental 69,300 deadweight ton (dwt) woodchip carrier. This impressive vessel has been commissioned by Shandong Asia Pacific SSYMB Pulp & Paper, which is part of Singapore's Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL), a global frontrunner in fiber, pulp, and fine paper production. The Batavia Express, now under the management of Nova Shipping, marks a significant milestone as the first of six craft ordered by APRIL from New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. It has officially earned the title of the largest woodchip carrier worldwide. Sukanto Tanoto, Chairman of RGE—APRIL's parent company—highlighted the strategic importance of this delivery, stating, 'The introduction of this vessel will significantly boost our import capabilities for raw materials while positioning Rizhao port in Shandong as the foremost woodchip transport hub in China.' This groundbreaking addition is poised to transform the logistics of raw material supply in the region. [Sino Ship News 25/03/13]
