On October 7, 2019, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully executed a medical evacuation for a crewmember aboard the cargo ship 'BBC Campana', situated roughly 10 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas. The operation was prompted by a distress call from the vessel’s captain regarding a 34-year-old male member of the crew who was discovered unresponsive. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders promptly coordinated the response, directly consulting a duty flight surgeon who authorized the medevac. In response, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston, operating an MH-65 Dolphin, was dispatched to the scene. The team performed a swift hoist operation to rescue the patient, who was subsequently flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Upon arrival, he was reported to be in stable condition, thanks to the timely intervention of the Coast Guard aircrew.
