Collision Incident in Vung Tau: Cargo Ship 'My An 1' Sinks After Collision with 'Lisa Auerbach'

Sep 14, 2021 13:44

In the early hours of September 14, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a maritime incident occurred involving the cargo vessel 'Lisa Auerbach', which was en route to Ho Chi Minh City. The vessel collided with the Vietnamese cargo ship 'My An 1' (IMO: 9060728), which was docked in the Vung Tau mooring area while carrying 9,900 tons of clinker and possessing 40 tons of bunker fuel. The impact caused 'My An 1' to sink at anchorage position 18. At the time of the incident, the 'Lisa Auerbach', navigating westward at a speed of around 10 knots, left its anchorage and struck the bulk carrier. Fortunately, all 17 crew members aboard 'My An 1' were rescued by the crew of 'Lisa Auerbach'. The Vung Tau Port Authority acted swiftly to coordinate the emergency response, deploying forces to monitor the site and issue warnings to other vessels in the vicinity. Furthermore, the Maritime Administration is collaborating with pertinent agencies to establish buoys around the wreckage site and address any potential oil spills in the sea. Thankfully, as the wreck lies outside the main shipping fairway, it has not hindered maritime traffic. Notably, remnants of 'My An 1', including its mast and smokestack, remain visible above the water's surface. Cargo Ship Aids in Rescue of Dutch Yacht Crew in Bay of Biscay

May 30, 2016 10:14

In a remarkable act of maritime assistance, the cargo ship 'Finesse' came to the rescue of two sailors from the Dutch yacht 'Dante' after it collided with an unidentified cargo carrier on May 28, 2016. The incident occurred in the Bay of Biscay, approximately 45 miles west of Sein, during the early morning hours. The CROSS Corsen received an emergency alert from the yacht's British crew at 4:38 a.m., reporting that although they had avoided injuries, substantial damage to the 'Dante' necessitated an immediate evacuation once the unidentified cargo vessel departed the scene. Responding swiftly, CROSS deployed the SNSM lifeboat from Sein to provide assistance. The 'Finesse' successfully evacuated the two sailors at 6:35 a.m., ensuring their safety. Shortly thereafter, at 6:49 a.m., a Cayman SAR helicopter arrived to airlift the crew members from the 'Finesse.' They were successfully transported to the naval air base at Lanvéoc Poulmic, arriving at 8:07 a.m. Meanwhile, the 8.5-meter-long yacht remained afloat and was subsequently towed to Sein by the lifeboat. This incident underscores the vital role of cooperation and rescue operations in the maritime domain.

Bulk Carrier Finesse Experiences Mechanical Failure Near Saint-Paul

Mar 09, 2015 10:59

On March 9, 2015, the bulk carrier "Finesse," laden with sugar from Dar es Salaam, encountered significant difficulties off the coast of Saint-Paul. The ship experienced a mechanical breakdown while attempting to maneuver due to inclement weather conditions. Having been anchored for three days, the vessel was compelled to shift locations as storms approached, resulting in its mechanical failure. To assist the struggling ship, two tugs from the Grand Seaport, each equipped with a pulling capacity of 65 tons, were dispatched to secure the "Finesse." The tugs safely towed the vessel away from the mooring area to ensure its stability until conditions improved. The bulk carrier was required to wait for a favorable weather opportunity to enter the East Port and subsequently shift to the West Port when feasible. Fortunately, on March 10 at 6:30 a.m., with weather conditions having improved, the "Finesse" successfully entered the Port Réunion.
