On September 6, 2022, the cargo vessel 'BBC Pearl', traveling from Rotterdam to Port Said, made a critical detour to assist a migrant boat in distress, located 50 nautical miles west of Crete within Malta's Search and Rescue (SAR) area. The ship rescued a total of 62 individuals who had been stranded at sea for several days without access to food or water.
