In the early hours of December 25, 2014, at approximately 2:10 AM, the freighter 'BBC Vesuvius' encountered an unfortunate incident in the Kiel Canal lock at Brunsbüttel. While en route from Gdynia to Port Said, via Aabenraa, the vessel collided with the steel covering of a gate, damaging the cover plates on the northern wall. After the incident, the 'BBC Vesuvius' continued its journey and departed Brunsbüttel at 9:20 AM. Unfortunately, the collision caused a steel component to protrude six meters into the lock chamber, rendering it unavailable for further navigation. Efforts to repair the damage are set to commence in the coming days, with personnel assigned for the job. Following the allision, the 'BBC Vesuvius' is expected to arrive in Port Said on January 5, 2015.
