On August 10, 2022, a swift medical evacuation was executed by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of Galveston, Texas, involving a 44-year-old crewmember from the bulk carrier 'Beatrice', which was traveling from Pecem to Houston. The situation unfolded when the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center received an urgent call at 11 a.m. from a boarding team stationed on the 'Beatrice', reporting that the chief engineer was suffering from acute shortness of breath. Following protocol, the watchstanders swiftly consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who advised that a medevac was necessary. Once the boarding team completed their evaluation, a Coast Guard Station Galveston 45-foot Response Boat–Medium, already on the scene, promptly arrived to assist. They took the distressed crewmember on board along with the boarding team and transported him back to Station Galveston. There, the ailing engineer was handed off to waiting emergency medical services personnel, who then rushed him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for urgent care.
