Emergency Medevac of Danish Crew Member from Trawler Near Barra Head
On March 18, 2021, a serious incident unfolded when a 53-year-old Danish crew member aboard the fishing trawler 'Beinur' was airlifted after sustaining critical head and internal injuries due to a fall. The vessel was operating approximately 20 miles south of Barra Head in the Outer Hebrides when the accident occurred. At 10:45 a.m., the Stornoway Coastguard Operations Centre received the distress call, prompting the dispatch of the Stornoway-based search and rescue helicopter. Medical professionals from Aberdeen were consulted to provide guidance on the situation. Following stabilization, the injured man was flown to Glasgow Airport from where he was subsequently taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for further treatment.
