Norwegian shipping magnate John Fredriksen is on the verge of consolidating his position in the dry bulk shipping industry by acquiring Knightsbridge Tankers, a strategic move aimed at enhancing fleet capabilities as the market anticipates a rebound. His unlisted entity, Frontline 2012, currently holds a 38 percent stake in Knightsbridge and has now agreed to exchange contracts for 25 newbuild vessels for additional shares, thereby increasing its ownership to 70 percent. In addition to this, Fredriksen personally manages an extra 3 percent of Knightsbridge's shares. According to a recent statement from Frontline, the company will receive 62 million Knightsbridge shares in two separate installments, valued at approximately $777.5 million based on the closing stock price from Wednesday. This acquisition is a significant step towards positioning Fredriksen's ventures at the forefront of the dry bulk carrier market, which is showing promising signs of recovery.
