Working Conditions Aboard the Bella-Victoria

In a swift response operation, the Gibraltar Port Authority facilitated the rescue of a critically injured crew member from the vessel "BW Princess," which was anchored approximately 2 miles east of Catalan Bay on Gibraltar's eastern coastline. The alert was received by the Port Authority's Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) via VHF radio at 09:38 AM on May 25, 2011, reporting that a crewman had sustained serious injuries after a fall of 5 meters onto the ship's deck. Immediately, VTS contacted the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) Ambulance Service to dispatch medical personnel to the port, who would be ferried to the vessel for an urgent assessment of the injured crewman. Upon their arrival, paramedics were promptly transported to the anchorage by the GPA Port Launch, accompanied by a VTS Officer. At 10:12 AM, the Port Launch reached the BW Princess, allowing medical staff to board and evaluate the crewman's condition. After stabilizing him, the crew member was carefully transferred onto the Port Launch using the ship's crane. By 11:04 AM, he was back at the port and promptly moved into a waiting ambulance, which took him to a hospital for treatment of head injuries.
