The bulk carrier 'Beltnes,' recognized as the largest vessel to call at Aberdeen, encountered significant hull damage while at the newly constructed Bay of Nigg harbour. This incident took place between June 29 and July 1, 2019, as the ship was engaged in delivering several thousand tonnes of gravel crucial for the ongoing extension works for the Dunnottar and Castlegate quays. Following the mishap of scraping the bottom of the harbor, the 'Beltnes' remained berthed for several days. On July 1, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency was alerted by one of their Duty Surveyors regarding the hull damage that had occurred on June 29 while the vessel navigated the approach channel associated with the Aberdeen Harbour expansion project. Under the watch of a class surveyor, a dive inspection was executed on June 30, confirming the extent of the damage. Following the assessment, classification society DNV-GL directed that the ship be promptly sent for repairs. Additionally, the Port State Control in Germany was informed about the situation. The 'Beltnes' was eventually drydocked at the German Dry Dock facility in Bremerhaven on July 3 and remained there until July 18 for necessary repairs.

In the early hours of October 9, 2014, the bulk carrier 'Beltnes' encountered a significant incident in Emden. At approximately 1:50 a.m., the vessel collided with a pole within the expansive sea lock's foreport. The Filipino captain miscalculated the wind conditions, causing the ship to veer off its intended path and strike the dolphins adjacent to the lock. This unfortunate allision resulted in a wooden shelter being dislodged and subsequently sinking into the basin. The 'Beltnes' sustained visible damage, including dents and scratches. Following the incident, the vessel made its way to South Quay in Emden, arriving around 3 a.m. The local water police have since initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision, emphasizing the need for enhanced navigational safety in the region.
