Maritime Incident in Bay of SĂŁo Marcos Involves Ore Carrier and Bulk Carrier

On September 29, 2019, a maritime incident occurred at 2:15 p.m. in the Bay of SĂŁo Marcos near SĂŁo LuĂ­s, when the ore carrier 'Wugang Atlantic' collided with the bulk carrier 'Berge Phan Xi Pang' as it was maneuvering to dock at the port of ItaquĂ­. At the time of the collision, the 'Berge Phan Xi Pang' was departing from the Vale Terminal in SĂŁo LuĂ­s. Both vessels sustained damage and subsequently anchored off ItaquĂ­ while investigations commenced. The port captain of MaranhĂŁo has initiated an inquiry into the factors leading to the accident. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or pollution resulting from the incident. On October 10, 2019, the 'Wugang Atlantic' departed SĂŁo LuĂ­s Anchorage, setting course for Curacao for necessary repairs. Meanwhile, the 'Berge Phan Xi Pang' continued its journey to Vila do Conde Port to disembark its remaining cargo. A decision regarding its repairs will be made later. The ship eventually docked at Zhoushan IMC-YongYue Shipyard on December 29, 2019, and resumed its voyage on January 11, 2020, heading towards Kwinana/Bunbury, with an estimated time of arrival on January 27.
