Early in the morning on May 15, 2013, at 12:17 a.m., authorities were alerted to a fire aboard a vessel in the Brufjord. Upon arrival in Stavfjord, they discovered that the distressed vessel was the Norwegian fishing boat "Vestervåg SF-45-F," a 50-foot craft registered in Florø with a crew of three. Meanwhile, the tanker "Bergen Star," which was en route to Mongstad, received the distress signal while navigating between Askrova and Svanøy.
