Damage Forces 'Bergsfjord' Ferry Out of Service Due to Hull Breach
The 'Bergsfjord' ferry has been temporarily taken out of service on the Hasvik route due to a concerning hull breach. A recent inspection uncovered a hole measuring 40 millimeters in length and 2 millimeters in width located at the ship's bottom. The issue came to light on May 26, 2016, during a routine journey from Øksfjord, when unexpected water ingress was detected. Just 21 minutes into its voyage towards Hasvik, the vessel had to turn back as a safety precaution and docked at a nearby pier for a thorough assessment. Luckily, the hull damage was repaired within four days. An investigation revealed that the ferry port's developer in Bergsfjord had overlooked a protruding part of the structure, which inadvertently caused the damage. As a result, they are now facing compensation claims.
