Introducing Bima Suci: Indonesia's Newest Sail Training Ship
After an extensive design process that spanned over three years, the Indonesian navy has unveiled its latest achievement, the Bima Suci. Designed by the renowned Spanish firm Oliver Design, this magnificent sail training vessel showcases remarkable craftsmanship and engineering. Spanning an impressive 364 feet in length and 44 feet in width, with a draft of 14.8 feet, Bima Suci ranks among the largest tall ships globally. Constructed at Freire Shipyards in Vigo, Spain, this majestic ship features an enormous 36,200 square feet of sails, is equipped with five decks, and has the capacity to accommodate a crew of 200. Oliver Design also provided comprehensive architectural design for the Bima Suci, which is slightly smaller than the notable BAP Unión from Peru, currently the largest naval sail training ship that entered service last year. Bima Suci replaces the aging Kri Dewaruci, a German-built vessel from 1953, and is set to become a centerpiece of the Indonesian navy. The ship will serve as a 'floating ambassador,' undertaking goodwill voyages to ports globally. Named after a legendary Javanese hero, Bima Suci symbolizes strength, courage, and righteousness, a theme that is visually represented by the figurehead adorning its bow.
