In a remarkable display of maritime cooperation, the Coast Guard orchestrated a daring rescue on November 4, 2013, approximately 700 miles east of Cape Cod. At around 5 a.m., watchstanders from the 1st Coast Guard District in Boston received an emergency beacon signal from the 34-foot Canadian sailing vessel, "Easy Go." The urgent situation prompted an immediate response from the Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, Maryland, where an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew was dispatched to locate the distressed vessel. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard command center reached out to nearby ships for assistance, and two vessels, "Bishu Highway" and "Athina L," responded promptly. The "Bishu Highway" arrived on scene at approximately 2:45 p.m., establishing communication with the lone sailor aboard the "Easy Go." Fortunately, the sailor reported being uninjured; however, his vessel had suffered a loss of its mainsail, rendering it unable to navigate. While the "Bishu Highway" was unable to physically rescue the sailor due to its hull height of 50 feet above the water, it maintained a vigilant presence until the arrival of the "Athina L." On November 5 at approximately 5 a.m., the "Athina L" successfully rescued the sailor, ensuring his safety.
