Grand S Faces Third Detention in Six Months

Jun 25, 2026 09:08

On June 21, 2026, the vessel 'Grand S' underwent a Port State Control inspection in Novorossiysk, marking its third detention in a short span of six months. Originally named 'Bloom,' the ship was reflagged under Sierra Leone on May 29. During the inspection, authorities discovered a total of 12 deficiencies, three of which were deemed serious enough to warrant detention: 1) The emergency water level indicator was found inoperable; 2) The voyage data recorder did not meet required standards; 3) The International Safety Management (ISM) certificate was also not compliant. After addressing the issues, the 'Grand S' was released on June 23 and proceeded towards Iskenderun, with an estimated time of arrival on June 26. Its previous detentions occurred on November 27, 2025, in Kocaeli, where it was held for eight days due to 38 deficiencies, and on November 17, 2025, in Novorossiysk, for six days due to 22 deficiencies.

Collision Between Turkish Bulk Carrier and German Heavy Lift Vessel Near Constanta

Oct 26, 2017 15:07

In a maritime incident that unfolded around 0300 UTC on October 25, the Turkish bulk carrier MARAKI K collided with the German heavy lift ship MARIA at the outer anchorage of Constanta. Both vessels were reportedly in motion, navigating to anchor, when the collision occurred. Fortunately, initial reports indicate that neither ship suffered significant damage, and no leaks were reported following the incident. However, the movements of the MARAKI K have raised some eyebrows; after departing the anchorage at a speed of approximately 7 knots, the vessel proceeded further into the sea and, by 1500 UTC, was traveling in a southerly direction at a speed of 3-4 knots, raising questions about whether she was underway or drifting. Meanwhile, the MARIA remained anchored at Constanta Anchorage, undeterred by the earlier mishap.
