Working Conditions Aboard the Blue-Puttees

A comprehensive air and sea search effort has been launched for a 41-year-old woman who reportedly fell overboard from the ferry 'Blue Puttees' while en route from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador, in the early hours of July 16, 2025. Surveillance footage captured her presence at approximately 3:26 a.m. NDT before she vanished, prompting her family to alert authorities. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Halifax, along with the Coast Guard, have mobilized assets to locate the missing woman. Upon the arrival of the ferry at Port aux Basques, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) conducted a thorough search of the vessel but did not uncover any signs of her. In the search area south of Port aux Basques, a Hercules aircraft, a Cormorant helicopter, and a Provincial Airlines plane have been deployed to cover both air and water for potential signs of the woman. As of July 17, the Hercules aircraft continues to monitor the situation on site, alongside the Canadian Coast Guard Ship La Poile Bay. Additionally, the Coast Guard vessel Cape Roger has retraced the ferry's route between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in an attempt to gather more information. The search operation highlights the commitment of maritime authorities to resolve this troubling incident swiftly.
