The captain reported that some passengers, who held tickets for Syros, intended to remain on board to disembark at Piraeus instead. Prior to arrival, announcements had been made to inform travelers about their destination. The checks revealed that 290 guests disembarked for Syros, while 985 new passengers boarded for Piraeus. Consequently, the ferry departed at 11:05 p.m., delayed from its scheduled 9:50 p.m. timetable, carrying a total of 1,862 passengers toward Piraeus. On the morning of November 21, 2024, the Port Authority of Agios Efstratios received an important notification from the captain of the 'Blue Star Mykonos,' who was navigating the vessel on its routine journey. This service connects Kavala with several key destinations including Myrina, Agios Efstratios, Mytilini, Chios, Vathi, Karlovasi, Fourni, Agios Kyrykos, Mykonos, Syros, and Piraeus. Due to hazardous weather conditions affecting the region, the master of the ferry declared the approach to Agios Efstratios unsafe, resulting in the ship continuing its voyage directly to Mytilene. At the time of this decision, four passengers and two trucks were prepared to disembark at Agios Efstratios.
