Miraculous Survival of Diver at 262 Feet in the North Sea
In an extraordinary tale of survival, a diver managed to stay alive for 40 grueling minutes submerged at a depth of 262 feet in the North Sea after his air supply line was severed on September 18, 2012. The incident occurred while he and his team from the Bibby Topaz were conducting inspections on a drilling structure at the Huntington oil field, located 115 miles east of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. During the dive, the vessel experienced a malfunction in its dynamic positioning system, causing it to drift and snag the diver's umbilical line, which ultimately led to its rupture. Left with only his emergency oxygen tank, the diver adhered to safety protocols by remaining still to conserve his dwindling air supply. It took an agonizing 38 minutes for his fellow divers to locate him and retrieve him to safety inside a diving bell. By the time he was rescued, he had lost consciousness. Fortunately, the bellman, a diver who remained in the diving bell, was able to quickly revive him. After receiving decompression treatment, the diver made a complete recovery, showcasing the resilience of the human spirit in the face of dire circumstances.
