Inaugural Voyage of Brave Pioneer Marks a Milestone for Green Methanol Shipping
The 'Brave Pioneer', the first of five innovative green methanol dual-fuel dry bulk carriers chartered by Cargill, has officially embarked on its maiden voyage. Constructed by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and owned by Mitsui & Co. Ltd., this Kamsarmax vessel is designed to operate efficiently on both traditional marine fuels and eco-friendly green methanol. The shift to green methanol is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 70% compared to standard fuels. The ship set sail from Calag-Itan on January 15, 2026, making its way to Singapore for green methanol bunkering on January 19 before heading to Western Australia and then onward to Europe. On this inaugural journey, Cargill is implementing a series of crucial operational trials aimed at assessing green methanol bunkering capabilities, tracking and verifying environmental benefits through carbon accounting systems, and gauging the demand for low-carbon freight solutions in the market.
