Brio-Faith Vessel Reviews and Specifications

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has detained the cargo vessel 'Brio Faith' at Port Alma due to serious crew welfare concerns. Authorities intervened after discovering that nine seafarers—comprised of Chinese and Filipino nationals—had been onboard the vessel for an alarming duration of over a year without any leave. During the inspection conducted from October 31 to November 4, 2020, it was revealed that three crew members had been at sea for more than a year, four for over 16 months, and two had exceeded 20 months without leave. Tianjin Shun Xin Yuan Shipping, the ship’s owner and operator, initially assured AMSA officials that plans were in place for an immediate repatriation of the crew. However, on November 3, they reported that the repatriation arrangements had failed and requested permission for the seafarers to remain onboard until the next scheduled port of call in Shanghai. AMSA rejected this request, citing the excessive time the crew had already spent on the vessel and mandated that the ship could not set sail until all overdue seafarers were repatriated. As of now, the nine seafarers are en route to Brisbane, where they will board international flights back to their home countries. Meanwhile, the 'Brio Faith' has taken on a new crew to satisfy its minimum manning requirements and successfully departed Port Alma in the evening of November 4.
