Jan 28, 2025 09:49

On January 22, 2025, at approximately 9 p.m. UTC, the cargo vessel 'Burak,' which was en route from Messina to Tuzla, encountered a significant engine malfunction while navigating the Dardanelles Strait near Kepez. In response to the situation, the Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) promptly coordinated the deployment of two rescue tugboats: 'Türkeli' (IMO: 9816256) and 'Kurtarma 18' (IMO: 9974890), to assist the distressed ship. The successful operation had the 'Burak' safely towed to Karanlık Liman, where it was moored at coordinates 40° 02' N 026° 18' E, close to Erisköy, shortly after 10 p.m. UTC with the support of a pilot. Following temporary repairs, the vessel lifted anchor on January 23 at around 9 p.m. UTC and made its way toward the Tuzla shipyard area for extensive repairs. The 'Burak' arrived at the shipyard on January 24 at noon and remained docked there as of January 28.
