Negative COVID-19 Test for Crew Member Aboard BW Matsuyama
A crew member on the bulk carrier 'BW Matsuyama', currently docked just south of Perth, has received a negative COVID-19 test result. The individual was transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital overnight after exhibiting flu-like symptoms while on the vessel. Fortunately, following his test, he has returned to the ship, which is actively resuming loading operations at the Kwinana grain terminal. The BW Matsuyama is scheduled to set sail on December 8. The vessel has a total of 19 crew members, all of whom embarked in Manila last August and have been consistently utilizing personal protective equipment during their time on board.
Health Precautions Enforce Lockdown on Freighter BW Matsuyama at Kwinana Terminal
On the evening of December 6, a crew member aboard the freighter 'BW Matsuyama' reported flu-like symptoms while docked at the Kwinana terminal in Fremantle. In response, authorities implemented a temporary lockdown, preventing anyone on the vessel from disembarking as they awaited COVID-19 test results for the affected crew member, who was isolated to ensure the safety of others onboard. Port workers at the nearby CBH Kwinana Grain Terminal also faced lockdown measures as a precautionary step. Thankfully, these workers have since been permitted to leave. The results of the crew member's COVID-19 test are anticipated on December 8, with health officials closely monitoring the situation.
