On January 31, 2018, at 12:55 PM, a maritime incident occurred at the outer anchorage of Pyeongtaek involving the LPG carrier 'Passat' and the product tanker 'New Confidence'. The 'Passat' was maneuvering towards the local pilot station when it collided with the 'New Confidence', which was securely moored at the Daesan No. 2 inbound waiting anchorage. The impact resulted in damage to both vessels; the 'New Confidence' suffered significant harm to the port side hull plating near the fore peak tank, while the 'Passat' incurred damage to its starboard hull and deck plating. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew, nor was there any damage to the cargo or signs of oil pollution. Following the incident, the vessels were surveyed by the Coast Guard along with various maritime surveyors. At the time, the 'Passat' was transporting 40,935 tons of LPG and had a diverse crew of 24 individuals, hailing from Latvia, Romania, Poland, India, Russia, and the UK. After the necessary inspections and assessments, the 'Passat' arrived in Incheon on February 6 for comprehensive repairs, which were successfully completed by February 23, enabling the ship to depart for Daesan.
