Global Marine, a notable subsea service provider based in the UK, has successfully secured a five-year extension of its maintenance contract with the South East Asia and Indian Ocean Cable Maintenance Agreement (SEAIOCMA). This extension is set to last until the conclusion of 2022. As part of the agreement, Global Marine will establish a newly constructed depot in Subic Bay, Philippines, which will serve as the operational base for its cable lay vessel, the Cable Retriever. The SEAIOCMA, which consists of 46 cable owners in a collaborative effort, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of essential submarine cables that facilitate international telecommunications. Notably, Global Marine has been dedicated to providing reliable maintenance services to SEAIOCMA since the organization's inception in 1986, showcasing its long-standing expertise in the sector.
