Repair work is set to commence this week on a pontoon that was damaged following a collision with a ship in Brightlingsea Harbour. Boaters utilizing the harbour should take note that the repairs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday. A barge will be temporarily stationed next to the Fisherman’s Pontoon to facilitate the removal of the damaged piles and the installation of new supports. Mariners are advised to navigate the area with caution, maintaining a slow speed to minimize any wake that could exacerbate the situation. The incident occurred on November 15, when the 2,800-tonne timber barge Calamar collided with the pontoon under foggy conditions. Following an investigation conducted by the harbour commission, the ship’s crew and pilot were found to be without fault regarding the accident.
