In a strategic move to optimize its fleet, DFDS has decided to sell the 'Cappadocia Seaways' after 23 successful years in operation. This decision is part of a broader adjustment within the company's fleet and aims to enhance capacity in the Mediterranean region. The 197-meter vessel, known for its impressive capacity of up to 2,772 lane meters—equivalent to about 177 trailers—has been a vital asset on the Mersin-Trieste route. With the departure of 'Cappadocia Seaways', DFDS will reassign the 'Selandia Seaways' (IMO: 9157284) to take over the Tunis and Marseille route, which has experienced consistent volume growth over the years. In turn, the freight ferry 'Gallipoli Seaways' will step in to manage the Mersin-Trieste route, ensuring seamless service continuity for customers.

On the night of May 26, 2022, an urgent situation unfolded when the Port Authority of Heraklion received an alert from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) regarding a critical medical emergency involving a 53-year-old crew member aboard the 'Cappaocia Seaways'. The vessel was navigating north of the beautiful island of Crete at the time of the incident. Acting swiftly, a helicopter from the Greek Air Force was dispatched to the location, successfully hoisting the ailing crew member. After the rescue, the individual was transported to Heraklion International Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to rush him to Heraklion University General Hospital for immediate medical evaluation and treatment. This operation highlights the exceptional responsiveness of local authorities and the vital role of air and sea rescue services in ensuring maritime safety.
