Cargo Ship Captain Antonis Runs Aground in Vung Tau Estuary

On April 26, 2024, the cargo vessel 'Captain Antonis' encountered trouble while navigating near the Vung Tau estuary. Carrying a significant load of over 68,000 tonnes of corn and wheat from Montevideo, the ship ran aground at approximately 15:30 as it was on its way to anchor in preparation for upcoming quarantine procedures. Promptly responding to the situation, the Maritime Administration of Vung Tau, along with local authorities, dispatched salvage teams to assist with the vessel's recovery. After an intensive effort lasting around 10 hours, the 'Captain Antonis' was successfully refloated. The ship made its way to safety and was securely berthed at the SP-PSA International Port of Phu My at 6 a.m. UTC on April 28.
