On February 27, 2020, the 'Cembay', which was making its way from Torbay to Santander with a crew of eight onboard and operating in a ballast state, encountered significant steering difficulties. This predicament occurred while the vessel was navigating at a speed of nine knots at coordinates 49° 31' 45" N and 004° 57' 03" W, approximately 28 miles southeast of Lizard Point. To address the steering complications, the crew activated the emergency steering system, successfully piloting the vessel to Plymouth, where it docked safely at 8 p.m.

On May 17, 2011, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a significant fire broke out aboard the cargo ship 'Cembay' while docked at Chatham Docks. The incident was triggered when a fuel container on the vessel, which was loaded with cement, ignited after a fuel line connected to a generator experienced a break. This generator was actively pumping cement off the ship at the time of the incident. A quick response ensued, with Medway Coastguard and the offshore lifeboat from Sheerness being dispatched to the scene to assist. Initially, the crew of 'Cembay' attempted to control the flames, but it was the firefighters who ultimately managed to isolate the fuel supply and extinguish the fire using specialized foam.
