The vessel had been anchored north of Belém, Brazil, since February 2, 2020, after arriving from Paramaribo, Suriname. Authorities did not cite COVID-19 or other viral infections as potential causes of his condition. The crew member succumbed to his illness while being transported to a hospital in an ambulance, marking a sad event for the crew and the maritime community.
