The Port of Antwerp has once again showcased its enhanced capabilities with the arrival of the capesize bulker MG Courage, loaded with a significant shipment of steam coal headed for the German market. This milestone is a direct result of the recent deepening of the Western Scheldt, which has been instrumental in accommodating not just Ultra Large Container Ships exceeding 10,000 TEU, but also massive capesize vessels. The MG Courage, which sailed directly from Richards Bay in South Africa on June 23, carrying a total of 176,487 tonnes of steam coal, arrived at the Port of Antwerp with a maximum draught. The vessel is now docked at the Antwerp Bulk Terminal (SEA-invest) located within the Delwaide dock. Notably, during its journey, 17,274 tonnes of coal were offloaded at the Everingen anchorage near Teurneuzen to be transferred onto barges for further delivery to the hinterland. The remaining 159,213 tonnes is currently being unloaded in Antwerp, destined for German power stations.
