The Clamor-Schulte: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

Lifeboat crews launched a costly search operation, amounting to £6,000, following a false distress signal sent by the cargo vessel 'Ckamir Schulte' on August 12 at 4 p.m. The RNLI teams from Dunbar, located in East Lothian, and a contingent from St Abbs in the Scottish Borders, dedicated two hours to scouring the waters between their stations after receiving the mayday alert indicating a lifeboat sinking. The Aberdeen Coastguard was also enlisted, tracing the call's origin. The search focused on the 'Ckamir Schulte', which was anchored near Dunbar. Initially, the vessel’s crew denied any connection to the emergency signal. However, after an exhaustive search yielded no signs of distress, the crew ultimately acknowledged that they had indeed been the source of the call. The captain revealed that they had been conducting lifeboat drills on the ship and mistakenly transmitted the mayday alert over a public channel instead of a private one.
